Need advice...sps suffering.

Hi everyone,

Recently went all sps in my fusion 20 gallon that has been running for a few years. I have been using rscp and a jebao dosing pump and all my high end frags were vivid and growing at a Dkh of 10.5, calcium 460, mag 1300 and salinity 1.026..... I made the mistake of switching to bio actif salt with prodibio and wiped my tank of nutrients and all my sps started to pale and my favorite miyagi tort is starting to stn at the base. I immediately started feeding the tank reef energy twice a day, lowered the led lighting to heavy blue low intensity and turned off the dosing pump since Dkh is hanging at 10.5 And sps stopped uptaking alk and calcium.

Where to go from here? I actually love the bio actif salt and have a 200 gallon bucket arriving tonight so I can do a 5 gallon water change. I just didn't realize how quickly it would make the tank ulns. I'm going to up the feedings and do small water changes every week. I'll keep the lighting low till I see recovery. I'm worried about swings with the alk. I'm gone 3 days a week and the concern is when the tank starts uptaking alk and calcium and I don't catch it till I get home and a big swing occurs.

My dosing pump was at 5ml a day on alk and calcium and now it's off. Should I dose maybe 2 ml so no big swing occurs? Do I frag the miyagi tort at the base where color is still good and glue the remaining? I think it started stn because I stressed it from breaking a piece and then it hit ulns. Had no reserves built it I'm guessing. Any suggestions help would be appreciated! Heart broken to see such vivid coloring go to pale and stn.... Thank you

Unless your SPS use a lot of Alk per day, that looks isn't the case, I will just leave the system to naturally go to ~ 7.5 Dkh.

Measure Alk every day at the same time until you achieve your objective. That will provide the rate of Alk use per day. Then start to dose accordingly to keep that rate.

Cheers
Daniel
Ps : when your dkh target is achieved start to feed heavy the fish or increase the fish population, to provide food for the corals. They are probably starving. You can probably start feeding more now... Always remember "slow changes"

Thanks for the help nemodan! Alk is dropping and I fragged the miyagi tort again removing all stn. It has been through a lot in the last two weeks, I hope it pulls through.
