Need advice to save my Diamond Goby

It's a sad day
Sadly, in spite of my efforts my sickly Diamond Goby has died. It was gaining weight and coming into the open more frequently. I feel like I did everything I could to give it a chance but ultimately it didn't work. I last saw it alive two evenings ago and when I looked into the tank in the morning there were large sand mounds near the opening of it's cave. I hadn't seen it since but the skimmer was producing more than normal. I finally found the half eaten body last evening. It's partner looks fine, seems to be doing well, and is actively eating when fed.
