Need advice

Okay looking today at some larger frags in my tank and saw tons of red bugs on one, so I checked other frags and they had them too. I called vets for interceptor. Either they don't have it or I need a prescription. I did an iodine dip for them. They look so bad now. I'm just really discouraged. Any words of advise?

I would check around your local forum and see if anoyone has some interceptor. Im really sorry to hear the news, my friend got a few on a frag and lost a bunch. If you were local i would give ya some :( Stick with it, alot of nice tanks have cought bugs just know you can beat it.

Well since I posted things have gotten worse for the corals. Seems like the iodine dip made the go into a RTN state. Almost all white. When should I go ahead and toss em ? ;(

Red bugs are easily treated with interceptor. If your vet will not give you any, try and find another vet in your area that will. Since vets may not know about using interceptor for red bugs, you might fax them or bring them an article on the subject. IMO, don't do anymore iodine dips, and frag or toss white corals skeletons as they are dead or dying.

this is true and it will kill your shrimp and copoepods but its easy to treat. good luck

Okay, one place had it, but don't think I need it now. Seeing as accidentally killed all my infected sps by doing a fw iodine dip. They are all white, but i can see dark coloration where the polyp holes are. Can they still come back? I feel like such an idiot

Don't dip you SPS corals in iodine. CoralRX and Revive are much more gentle. Iodine actually stains the coral.

Since it was a fw dip your corals probably don't have much of a chance.

We all make mistakes, don't worry about it, just push forward.

At the correct dosage it will NOT kill shrimp.

There are a few things you can bring to your vet (i think there was a thread on here that had an explanation of what it was being used for) so they have something they can actually read as to why you want it.
Or find someone with some that are expired as ive heard it does not matter if it is expired for our purposes.

Interceptor worked well on one of my old tanks and i did not loose all my shrimp/snails...some were lost but very few. Best of luck finding it.

This would be illegal, since Interceptor is a prescription medication.

I'm amazed. Some of the coral I thought was dead actually has polyps with color on them. I'm gonna hold onto these and see if anything develops.

Even though you may have lost the corals with the bugs on them, go ahead and dose the tank with interceptor. There may be more red bugs in the skimmer, sump or wherever just waiting for you to restock.
