My froggie got into a deadly fight with my acan. The acan is dead. Couple heads of the froggie are gone and some heads don't look good. What should I do? Will the infection spread?? .. Last thing I want to do is cut it but I will if that is the only thing I can do. :(

If there as any tissue hanging off the dead polyps remove the entire branch(polyp), if you notice more infection coming on, frag accordingly to seperate it from the colony, to save any frags use the legols dip as its to help with infections. Be sure and use some fresh carbon if you havent already, that can be a big help.

The problem with dead tissue in the tank is the risk of infection. Antiseptics can be used to help to prevent Sepsis (In the old days we used Iodine) In the reef both Iodine or Lugols work well. Fill a bowl with clean tank water and add 4-5 drops of Lugols then place the injured coral into the "Dip" for ohh maybe 5 minutes when you replace this back into the tank be sure that some water flow is directed at the coral to whisk away the dead and dying tissues and prevent further infection. Many of these corals secrete very strong and healthy antibodies of thier own to also protect them in the wild. The injury that you describe can easily be fatal and I have not ever specifically "Dipped" a froggy but the outcome should be the same. Fragging the dying branch for the good of the colony is also probably the best advice.

Good Luck

Thanks for the advise guys.. It looks much better today. It's not spreading to other heads ...
