Can anyone identify this coral, it has a foot kind of like Xenia but I am unsure of what it is. Sorry about the picture. It's hard to see the foot unless the polyps are retracted. Whatever it is, it's pretty hardy, it survived live rock curing in an un-cycled tank.

Get rid of it! I never got it id in my tank but its taking over... Started really small ans now its everywhere! Nothing will kill it, it suffocates all my corals!

It's sympodium. It is a very fast grower and covers rock quickly some people love it (me) others hate it (him.) If you have ugly rock it's great otherwise it may be a little invasive.

Thank you Cbasss and dogshowgrl, I'll consider both options. I appreciate you giving an ID on the critter for me too dogshowgrl. I may try to use a razor and cut it loose and put it on an ugly piece of Tonga branch that I have in my sump and put it out away from the other rocks in the display tank. It was already on a piece of LR that I used to help cure my dry rock so it's not like I'm losing anything if it kicks the bucket. Thanks again

Mine is looking simillar to your picture and i believe its anthelia. Either way, both may look good at first but they take over precious real estate and for some reason are not good roomates

Well, I cut it from the rock and moved it to another piece that I have in the sand bed that is isolated from the main rock. I will keep an eye on it, if it starts to get crazy, I will remove it. I hate to kill it because I like the color, but I do not want it to crowd my rock work as I do plan on adding more LPS and Soft corals. Thank you again for the honest advise and opinions. I researched both anthelia and sympodium and it is rather difficult to conclude on which species it actually is because there are similarities with both, but I am leaning towards anthelia. I went back to my log book and It was so strange that it just came out of no where, I cycled the rock in some buckets with no light, then cycled the tank with the rock and no light, added biospira (I was curious), waited on the chemistry to stabilize, added a few chromis', then I started adding corals, but it wasn't until I began dosing limewater in the ATO that the mystery soft coral began to creep out of the hole in the rock. It could have been just a coincidence or maybe the pH was too low for it to recover and the limewater raised it enough to kick it into overdrive.

Good plan... Mine started also to grow out of nowhere... I also use kalkwasser in my ato... It completely took over about 30 lbs of live rock and i found it pretty at first... Note it attaches at the bottom of my sps and burns the bases... I am in the process of curing new live rock to replace the infested rocks.. Ill do acid bath to kill it... Thats how much i like it!

One of the display tanks at my LFS has that ( or something identical) and every time I go there are new patches. It looks like a polyp can detach from the main colony and reattach elsewhere. That stuff is growing super fast.

If it's anthelia you need to be careful. Trimming it in the tank will cause it to release a toxin which will kill LPS corals.
