Need an opinion

My son is almost finished with the stand for my new 120 gal tank. By trade he is a cabinet builder and has an engineering degree. He has assured me that this stand will hold the load of this tank. When I look at the DIY stands on RC most are built out of 2x4s. Is this just over kill? Even the AGA stands I have looked at aren't built like the ones I see here. I need your imput. Here is a picture.

In my opinion a lot of the stands here are over kill. This is because people don't want 120 gallons of water and a few thousand dollars of livestock on the floor. So I would recommend strengthening up that stand for piece of mind.

Anybody else out there with any thoughts? I forgot to mention that the stand is built out of 1x4 red oak with the corners reinforce with an extra 1x2. Thanks

One other thing I forgot is that the bottom base and the top base (where tank sets) are constructed out of 2x4s. Sorry for all the extra posts.

dqualls,

I am not an engineer by any means but I just bought a stand for my 90 and it was one of those stands that you put together yourself and it was made out of 1/2" (or 3/4") plywood and it seems to hold just fine. On the otherhand my 120 is sitting on 2 x 6 lumber.

Like already stated you can re-inforce for piece of mind.

The design of the stand looks pretty good.

If he is a cabinet builder and you've informed him of the weight of a 120g (1200 pounds?), I'm sure he's figured in the necesary strength.

that stand will hold just fine. mine looks to be build in the same way. My dad was a cabinet maker for a few years.
