Need Critical Advance.

Hello, I just received my 80/20 frame and my tank as well. my 80/20 is 1.5"x3" the top frame and legs are 3" and the bottom is 1.5 inches I had a trespa top made for it that was 20 inches long. Well while putting the frame together I realized I never account for the thickness of the aluminum and realized after looking at my overflow I would have a major problem and that being that approximately 1 and half inches of the 1 and 1/2 inch drain and the 1" return that was predrilled out would be over the frame itself.

So, knowing this I tried to compensate and mover the tank forward on the top a bit so that the bulkheads would fit and could be tighten. Well that left approximately 1.25 inches of the the front of the tank overhanging at the end. My question is would this small amount of overhang be ok for the the tank in the long run or will it eventually weaken and spring a major leak and flood the house.

The trespa top is great is water proof and bacteria proof. It's not cheap and I hate to have to have the company create me a new one that is 21 1/4 inch if I do not have too.

Could someone please help me out before I continue forward with my build?

Thanks

P.S. the stand is solid and the tank with the overhang is solid and does not wiggle and everything is level.

Can you bolt a piece of allum on the back of the top of the stand Matching what is there.. bolt in several places but not where the bulkheads are. then drill the stand the piece you add will support the weight easily..

or put a piece under the front hangover and drill and Bolt it on.. Not so nice to look at but doable with caps to cover the bold heads

Gust a guess not seeing the stand and tank..... That is a great material for the top...
love to see the build..

Sorry here are pictures of the stand as you can see the frame is 3" and when I was drilling out the hole for the overflow I hit the frame then when I put the tank on top of it that when I realized it would work...

For some reason no pictures

But glad you got it to work.... ..

actually that should have said wouldn't work.... still have the 1.15 inches overhang... Ok, I still trying to figure out how to attach the pictures.

oops

yea i still think i would drill the stand and if need be reinforce from the back....

or put something under the lip hanging over the top ...
often when i have trouble posting images on here its because they are too large...

ok I think I figured it here are the pictures

that is very wide allum. ..

it would be fine either way. I would grind some of the metal out on the back right where the bulkheads will be .then let the rest stick over the front... Would not be enough to compromise the stand and yet leave it just a tiny bit hang over in the front..Letting the top and the tank stick over a bit... I think the over hang would look better then perfectly flush anyway..

oh ok great so that small amount of overhang would be good then and will not jeopardize the integrity of the the tank at all over time. Prefect I was really hating to having to pay for an new top and I was a bit afraid of grind 1.5 of the 3" aluminum away thinking I would would comprise the stand. Yeah it is a sturdy stand thats for sure....

Thanks for your help

i have seen a lot of stands where the top and tank where like 1 inch larger all the way around... by Grinding a small amount out of the back of the stand. JUST at the pipe location. then a small over hang . I see no issue with this..

I am sure others will also give you there Opinions as well.... you can see my display tank the wall that holds the tank up on the front is actually at the back of the shelves under it. 12 inches back...the surface the tank is sitting is cantilevers over ..i was going to just leave the whole bottom open and put a Display fuge there. But Bonnie decided she would rather have shelves so fuge stayed in basement... Good thing as its a mess ...

ok I decided to send a picture of what it looks like overhanging let me know what you think now and if you still think its ok this way...
