Before I ask for advice, I'd like to say thank you in advance just in case I forget later! I love you RC!
Please read the whole thread. I'm sorry it's so long. Usually my posts are very short.
The wife and I currently purchased a 72 gallon bow front reef ready aquarium. We currently run a non reef ready 44 gallon pentagon. We are going to be shifting the 44's contents to the 72. I need advice doing this. Here are the specs.
Currently in the 44:
-44 gallon pent
- glass canopy
- (1) 150w metal halide, 4 T5's, 1 moonlight (this will go to the 72)
- Rena 2 canister filter
- Coralife Super Skimmer (up to 65 gallons)
- 1 Heater
- 2 powerheads (these will go to the 72)
Livestock:
2 perc clowns
2 chromis
1 hippo tang
1 powder blue tang
1 by color pygmy angel
1 red ring snail
1 sand star
1 fire shrimp
1 maze brain
2 gorgonians
1 crocea clam
1 orange cup coral
1 anemone
1 cabbage coral
20 hermits
20 misc snails
The new tank:
72 gallon reef ready w/ stand and glass canopy
the lighting system above will move to this and the powerheads. I will also be adding 2 more powerheads
The filtration will be sump with built in skimmer.
I will also be adding 25 lbs more of live rock.
My bed will be argonite/sand.
I also currently have an RO/DI in house so I'm good on water.
My plan is this. Run 30 gallons of RO/DI with LR and heater for about 2 weeks to cycle. I will help speed it up by placing my 2 chromis in there too. This way I don't get a nitrate spike when I'm ready to do the actual move from the 44. All the water should be cycled enough for the spike to be minimal if any at all. 1 week before the actual move, I will set up the 72 with the 30 gallons of newly cycled water and LR. Or course the sump, new powerheads and heaters will be in the tank as well. I will let this run for a week in the tank. After that week, I will take a day or two to slowly move the LR from the 44 to the 72. Once all the rock is moved I will take the water and corals out of the 44 and put it in the 72. My fish will be in QT tank while water and corals are moved. After that I'll put in my fish and lighting system.
Does this sound like a good plan or am I missing something?
Thanks again everyone!
Joshua
