Peltier coolers are very interesting devices. However, I would recommend sticking with mass-produced ones for the aquarium hobby. I looked into one for my computer and researched the potential for rust due to condesation on the cold side if not sealed properly. Not good for high density electronics to be exposed to liquid. Thus my fear of home built sealing in an aquarium with all your high dollar critters??? Plus to get decent heat extraction requires an equally decent energy draw - and for that a clean DC, high current, power supply. Those aren't cheap.

Fans are easy, cheap, and work via evaporative cooling - more efficent to cool via phase change than sensible heat draw-down.

However, if you have the means and DIY tinkering mind, who am I to stop you !!!!
