I just got offered a purple tang for 100 and a powder blue with it for a total of 120-130 ...Should i do it??? The purple tang is about 5" just shipped in and the blue has been in for a while no ich and is eating, its about 4.5"

I never wanted to impulse buy or spend this much on a fish but i heard purple tangs are getting very rare. Should i take the purple and leave the blue ? or add both now that its my only chance to add 2 tangs at once?? what other tang should i get if i dont get the blue??

Lets make it short and sweet, my tank specs, everything is stable and tank has been up for over 2 months. 72g Bowfront

Tank Mates: Melanarus wrasse, 2 false clowns paired, scooter blenny for over a month...Just added yesterday a small 6 line who has been a little bullied by my melanarus and a cleaner wrasse

Should i do it? vote ?

One tang is pushing it in a 72 gal. And purples should be the last fish you add as they can get super mean. So expect him to be super dominant with all your other fish.If you have to have it get only the purple. But honestly your tank might be small enough to make him even more aggressive. Def don't get both unless you have a larger tank coming in the near future. JMO.

I have 3 tangs in a 90, purple, red sea salfin and blue hippo and they all gets along great. The size of those are pushing it, Zebs fits fit in the palm of my hand and hippo is smaller. If your rock work good you shouldn't have a problem but no more tangs are those 2

Other tangs of his body type most likely. Like yellow, scopas etc. I'm telling you those two especially a 5" purple is too much tang for your tank. Don't say someone didn't say anything when your good deal of a fish starts wreaking havok or is stressed to the point of Ich ,death or devolops lateral line from improper diet or not enough grazing algae ..I believe that Both fish need a MINIMUM of 125 gals. So just cause it works for some it's def not enough room.. Not to say you can't or it wont work cause it's your tank do what you want but as far as it being right its not.

I'm sure the tang police will chime in LOL.

On the other hand that is a killer deal on a purple of that size. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I had my heart set on having a tang in my tank and maybe 2... Then a friend of mine got me this deal on my Favorite tang which is wrong but feels like a once in a life time chance at this price, I guess I'll settle for something else but what ?

This is really your best option and an excellent choice on your part. A Kole or Tomini would be a great addition to your tank. Put the tang in last (all of your other fish first) as they frequently will kill any after-introduced fish.

I hope not to come off as rude and if I do I am sorry. If you had your heart set on tangs then you should have got a larger tank to enjoy them and let them thrive. If I had a dollar for every post that states I will get a bigger tank for them, then life happens and they cannot upgrade, I could retire. Or the other one my tang is sick whats wrong thread. Just buy fish for the tank size you have now not in the future. It took me a couple years but I eventually got the tank I wanted and in the mean time made due with my 30. Just my 2 cents good luck to you.

That's an awesome deal for a purple tang. Their prices have really shot up over the past 5 years. I remember getting one for $65 and thinking I paid too much in 2004. I'd have a hard time passing him up and the recommendations have been made here on tank size.....but still I see your temptation and might put in for a "I'll be upgrading soon" defense.

Just say'n
