WHAT IS IT? What eats it? My tank has tufts of this algae, it is killing my corals, my zoos, and anything it gets near. It just smothers it after a while. None of my tangs eat it, Kole nor Yellow. My lawnmower blenny stays away. All crabs avoid it. Emerald and hermit. What do I do? I just took every rock that had it out. I still see a bit. It will take over soon. HELP

From the look of the forked blades it might be a Dictyota species. Do a search on here, I have seen some threads about it.

I agree with Dictyota as well......it will make you wish you had Hair Algae.

OK, a couple of things I did to help me get rid of mine...

First, understand that according to some literature it is not a algae that needs high nutrients. I had it for a bit in a tank with .01 Po3 (Hanna) and around 2ppm No3. It does well in high quality, clear water. Now, dont you feel better about yoru water quality.:D

Anyhow, at the end of the day, the 'Two Barred Rabbitfish' S. Virgatus, http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+1465+1449&pcatid=1449 Cleared out mine. I also added a Sea hare, http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+524+726&pcatid=726 as well and they seemed to mess with it a bit.

Again, remove what ya can by hand, get that rabbitfish in there, and stay diligent. Keep us posted!!

I had a few spots of a really beautiful blue Dictyota growing in my tank and my Purple Tang ate every speck of it within the first 24 hours it was in the tank.
