hi
i have a 75 gallon no sand bare bottom tank with every coral dying currently and i dont know the cause. maybe a more experienced member can help me out here?
heres some stuff that might help:
theres one SPS, a few LPS (all of them are retreating into skeleton), and three leather corals that have slime on them and it looks like theyre shedding
phosphates- undetectable with salifert kit
nitrates- 50ppm with salifert kit
the above two tests were done 3 days ago. 2 days ago I took out the sump and cleaned it, it was an absolute mess with at least 2 inches of gunk on the bottom. massive clean up of everything down there.
calcium- 350 ppm with red sea titrate kit
alkalinity- 6.2 dkh with red sea titrate kit
magnesium- 1200 ppm with red sea titrate kit
the above 3 tests were done last night so i dosed 100ml of alkalinity part to bring dkh up by 4 dkh and 200 ml of calcium to bring it up 64 ppm. i know youre supposed to dose equal parts but that would take forever to bring up the calcium then so I did a 1:2 ratio.. no idea if that's ok or not but I risked it :hmm5:
ive also been dumping a shot of vodka into the aquarium to carbon dose for the last 3 or 4 days once daily.
temperature- 81 degrees
as of right now ive turned down the heater to bring down temp to 78 and also i took a powerhead and blew off all the gunk on the leather corals. i also used the powerhead to blow into the rocks and a storm of detritus came out... waiting for that to settle down then ill do a water change. theres also some GFO and denitrate from seachem running in a reactor.
any ideas on how i should be moving forward? ty :fish1:
