Need help and suggestions a new build

I currently have a 120 mixed reef. I have been doing this for almost 10 years and it's time to upgrade. My new build, I am going to go 84 long, 28 wide and 28 tall.

I am currently using 2- wireless Vortech MP40's. Yesterday, I also just picked up 2 - Radio Pro's. Would love some feedback from you guys.

On this tank, I am going to be focusing on SPS.

Are the 2 MP40's on each end going to be enough? I really hate how loud they are when they are running above 70%. I'm fine if I have to purchase a couple of MP60's, but I'm obviously trying to avoid it, if I don't have to because of the cost. The option of doing 4 MP40's is out, because I don't want to put them on the back and I don't want to deal with 4 cords. If I need the MP60's, I'm going to just sell the MP40's on the forums. 1 is only 1 month old and the other is 2 months old. I would rather just deal with the simplicity of 2 pumps.

If I purchase 1 more Radion Pro, will 3 be enough? I love a lot of live rock in my tank, but on this one, I'm going to keep it away from each end of the tank about 6 inches or so. So width wise, I'm thinking I don't need the full 84 inches covered.

I need your input on starfire glass. I've heard it's softer, but I'm not really sure. The upgraded cost doesn't bother me, but is it even worth it?

I want to try a rimless tank with no canopy this time. I'll have someone come build me a nice skirt around the bottom when it's all plumbed in. I don't really know the pros and cons of a rimless. The stores here in Utah tell me, structurally, it's more risky, but what are your thoughts?

This tank will have a pair of Cross Hatch Triggers, Blue Face Angel and tons of Anthias.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to try and order it next Monday and it will be about 60 days out before I install.

I don't think you can do a rimeless with those demensions. I have a 180 and had two mp40. I since have added mp60 and sold one of the mp40. I will be adding another mp60 and moving the 40 to the back. The mp40 will not be enough for an sps tank of this size. If you are not viewing the tank from the back you can add the 40s to the back.

Thanks for the reply. I guess rimless is out of the question then.

I have a build going for a tank with very similar dimension. My tank is 84" long by 28 deep and 25 high. 2 MP40's not going to cut it. I tried 2 mp60's but they were way too loud. I now have 3 tunze 6105's and I also have 3 returns using eductors. I get well over 1,000 GPH from each return besides the power heads.

Interesting...

I just got off the phone with Ecotech and the guy told me the MP60's were 25% quieter. The MP40's drive me nuts because of how loud they are. Mine ran at about 70-80% and I recently turned them down to 50% last week.

I was going to get 2 MP60's for my tank and then Ecotech told me 3 Radion Pros ran parallel, will be perfectly fine for my build.

I suggest you try to get your hands on an mp60 and try it first. Maybe someone locally wont mind bringing it over to use for an hour so you can hear it. Anyway unless a closed loop is one of your options you have a while until you need to decided on powerheads. So get the tank up and running, see how much flow you get from your return line and then try out the mp60's. They can communicate with the radions so that's cool.
