Need help deciding on Manifold pump

Hi guys,

Was hoping you could help me out with something. I decided to mount a closed loop on my 40g tank, but I am not sure what pump I should use.

Because I am running a completely open top, I don't want to use any PVC tubing larger than 1/2". I was thinking of running a Mag 7 on the closed loop, but now I am thinking that a Mag 9.5 might work as well.

The manifold will have 2 45 degree 1/2" outlets on either side of the tank and switch back and forth with a SCWD.


Do you think the Mag 9.5 will make my fish feel like they are in a toilet bowl? I am already running about 800gph with my existing system, but there are too many dead spots.

If you haven't modified the SWCD's intake & exhaust size's, the 9.5 should work fine w/o making your fish feel like they're king crab fishing. However if you open up the intake & exhaust on the SWCD, then you could go with the Mag7 because there wouldn't be as much back pressure on the pump.....HTH :lol:

I was planning on using a 1/2" pipe going into the Mag 9.5

Then:

1/2" pipe out of Mag 9.5 >3/4" barb > SCWD > 3/4" barb > 1/2" pipe

Unfortunately the SCWD and Mag 9.5 both have 3/4" outlets...
