Is fin rot and cloudy eye related? This is the first time I have ever dealt with any possible disease. I have a regal, blueline rabbit, and sapo puffer (very little) with cloudy eyes. The regal along with my queen angel also have what appears to be fin rot. The queen has started hidding instead of doing laps back and forth and did not eat yesterday. The regal looks pretty bad and I do not have a qt big enough for these fish. What can I treat the whole tank with safely (no copper)? Thanks for any help

Fly 75,

Fin rot and cloudy eyes can be related, AND they are commonly caused by three different problems. Can you post a picture? If not, can any of the fish be captured? If you can do that, you might want to try a freshwater diagnostic dip to rule out flukes. To do this, you place one of the fish in tap water that is the same temperature as the tank (some people also adjust the pH of the tap water, but I never bother to do that). After five minutes, return the fish to the tank. Using a magnifying glass, look at the bottom of the dip container. Anything that looks like a worm is suspected of being a fluke - seeing more than about 10 of them in a dip indicates that is the cause of the problem. If you can see the dropped worms with your naked eye (they look like the fish's scales have fallen off) the fish has Neobenedinia - a different type of fluke.
The second possibility is that the fish have Cryptocaryon (saltwater ich) that has progressed past the white spot stage and become more diffuse. I don't mean to insult you by thinking you could have missed ich on your fish for the past week or so before it got to this stage, but it can happen.
The third possibility is that the fish have bacterial infections. I find it difficult to believe though, that a whole tank of fish would come down with a virulent bacterial infection with no predisposing factor - that really just doesn't happen.
There are some other disease issues that could cause similar symptoms, but they are rarer.
It would also help if you posted a complete history - water quality parameters, how long the fish have been in the tank, when was the last one added, etc.

good advice, but in fresh water dip ph needs to be EXACT. that is the most important part. also temp should be a degree warmer to prevent as much stress. also add methylene blue to help keep the fish less stressed and kill parasites. add 10 drops per gallon, even though it says 2 drops/gallon.

post a pic and we'll help you figure it out.

Thank you for your reply. Update; I started making water to do an agressive water change. In the mean time, I lost my queen and regal angel overnight. I have never had a diseased fish so I new at this. I believe I have atleast Ich (white specks almost like salt grains). The affected fish that are left are a blue line rabbit, powderblue. The rabbit has cloudy eyes and most likely the coulprit behind the ick. It is the newest fish and the one who showed signs of cloudy eyes first. I have a 9" blonde naso showing no signs of anything wrong. He is one chubby and amazing looking fish. The fish left all will eat so medicated food if needed would work. None of the fish left have fin rot. My next question is could ich be the whole cause of all this? Will treating ich be the fix or should the fin rot on the angels be addressed? AND, can I treat the display tank safely without killing my biological filtration (LR and coraline algae)? Can I treat ich and keep my rhinopias, black volitan, and catshark in the tank? My LFS store is giving me a 55gal system to use as a QT if needed but I dont think I would put the shark in there. What should my next steps be? Parameters: PH 8.2

Parameters: PH 8.2
Ammonia 0
Phosphates .25
Nitrite 0-.25
Nitrate 20
Temp 79F constant
Also, I have been without a skimmer for about 4 weeks waiting for non existent customer service from someone I dont want to say who (euro reef). I have my skimmer up and running since last night but I think that is why I have the problems with water chemistry. I did a 50gal water change 3 days ago. I also have a 80watt uv sterilizer. 340lbs of LR but I have some green hair algae starting to bloom. Not sure if any of this helps.
