I just got my 600 gallon tank running with fresh water. I need to figure out what size pump I should run from my 240 gallon sump to feed my 120 watt UV and my Dart NW skimmer. The plan is to run the water thru my UV first then directly into the skimmer and back out to the sump. How much GPH should I be trying to achieve? . My Return Pump is a Dart Gold but with the head pressure and feeding two tanks it is tapped out.

Thanks

Most recirc. skimmers call for 2-3x the tank volume which in your case would be 1200-1800gph. But a UV sterilizer of that size recommends at least 4000gph flowing through it. I would shoot for the 4000gph and then split it after the UV and send 1500 to the skimmer and the rest to the tank or sump

The tank has its own return pump, so everything will dump right back into the sump. The UV was used and the guy had installed 3/4" pipe on the inlet/outlet,so 4000 gph wouldn't be possible. I was thinking more along the lines of a Sequence Tarpon or something efficient as possible.

I can get new unions for the UV I found out, so I will most likely increase the pipe to a 1.5". My skimmer only has a 1" inlet/outlet also so that limits me quite a bit.
