For the past week I am having problems getting my alkalinity to drop. And my calcium is low. I have a 12 g nano reef. All the other parameters are good. A reading from two days ago was Alkalinity 18 or 19 and calcium 300. With ocean water from LPS and 10% to 15% water change every other day for the past week. My reading today is calcium 360 from adding Kent liquid calcium every day and alkalinity still 18 or 19. The alkalinity from the ocean water is 11 or 12. Don't know what to except for some more water changes.

Is there a salt mix that has a low alkalinity buffer.

What units of measurement are you stating here? You will find all of your answers in the reef chemisrty forum. Randy has some great articles covering your exact problem.

Your alkalinity should drop over time on its own. Just keep adding the calcium supplement. If the pH is okay, the tank should be fine.

What brand of salt are you using? You might want to try measuring some freshly-mixed salt.

360 ppm is okay for calcium, but you could try pushing it up to 400ppm. That might help with the alkalinity. If you get a snowstorm, you should be able to check the parameters when the water has cleared and work from there.
