Please help if you can, In short my vehicle was involved in a hit and run we were fully stopped at a stop light approx. 9pm. someone smashed into the rear of my Cherokee accident was in a spot were it deamed necessary to pull forward, to a safe area to exchange info. when we pulled to the first safe spot to the right, the driver fled. By the time we were able to chase the car it was gone. In short, witnesses flagged me down and gave me the licence #. I need to find a internet site to find out the name and address of the of the person who fled the accident. Police were called when we got home they told us to bring my vehicle up and make a report my witenesses also called. I would rather try to contact this person on my own to get there info (ins.) so I don't have to report it to my ins. and I don't have to have a hit n run charge brought up on them. Plus the time it will take to have the police find and arrest them, I have to ride around with a damaged vehicle. don't of thre forward

And why in the world don't you want the person who hit and ran to be charged? That's really stupid. Plus, without police help getting the guy to give you accurate insurance info is useless. Prolly doesn't have insurance to begin with, that's prolly why he ran.

Is there any technology invented to allow someone to reach thru the internet and smack someone? Coffee talking, up all night, little sleep. Seriously, is there new technology out there?

Because if you didn't get it the time it is going to involve for them to do something about the situation "stupid" I have already spoke to the police did you not read

What don't you understand about not having them charged with hit and run is, well, less than smart?

Either way, he was prolly a criminal before he hit you and now you're giving him more of a reason to stay a criminal because now he got away with another crime.

It isn't always that simple. So he got his license plate, but without a witness, it is just his word against the other guy's. No one is going to jail for that.

Given that you have witnesses though, you should be able to get some satisfaction. Me, I'd want that guy in the slammer...

got 4 witnesses I was just hoping to get around the rigoramorol of the amount of time it would take to have the police find this person I don 't know there story all I can tell you is that it was a new Lexus that hit my vehicle

Oh yea color silver, woman was driving, my witnesses also were able to get up to and yell to her that they had gotten her info.

You think it would have taken longer than the amount of time to get home and post a thread on RC to find the woman? They would have had her pinned down in about ten minutes if you would have called and gave them the license info along with the description of the car. You prolly let a drunk driver/criminal get away with killing someone else as well.

do you not know how to read the police were called immediately by my wittnesses now back to the original thread if you can't help the cituation go to your own forum in ind. Thanks

OK, why don't you want to file charges? What's the deal. Seems to me you are hiding something here.

I don't condone letting hit and run criminals "off the hook". Seems like you're going thru more of a hassle now than you would be reporting it. Yeah, I'm giving you a hassle cause you didn't report it. That person is a criminal and you're going the long way to let them off.

I don't think there is a way you can track down the plate number at least for free.
and I sincerely doubt that if you contact the person now, that thy would be helpful in anyway. That might even be dangerous!
I say prosecute. That's the only way you'll get any reimbursement.

I agree with Freed. And the fact that he is in another state doesn't make him any less welcome on our board. Though, it is the first time I've heard someone from here call someone a hoosier that was actually from Indiana. :) There will be nothing good coming from finding the person yourself. Seeking your own justice is as illegal as hit and run

Why would you not want this person arrested? That's a crime and you are kind of encouraging it by letting them off the hook.

I was involved in the bad end of a hit and run. The guy fled and didnt have any plates. He wanted me to follow him so he could take me to where his info was. I didnt and he drove off.

The police found it hard to comprehend that the other driver drove off and didnt have any plates. I was near 20th & Cass north of downtown.

The police did nothing to track them down as they really could not.

Even if you find the guy yourself your only hope would be they were drunk and now they will take care of it. They just didnt want the DUI last night.

It wont really be a problem with your insurance company, in my situation I used the non-insured motorist part of my policy and they fixed my car. They did however want a police report proving I wasnt liing about the other motorist fleeing. Nothing in the situation was your fault, up until you decided not to press charges to let a complete stranger off the hook.

The time saving aspect of the story seems silly. Just call the police and they will find the guy. What happens to him is his problem, you more than likely wont have to wait through the entire process of his charges. He hit you and the IF he has insurance that process will start. His problems will be just beginning.

More than likely he dosent have insurance and thats why they took off leaving you empty handed after tracking them down.

Police exist for a reason and society is pretty much based on bad people being punished. If you dont want them to get in trouble, dont press charges but I doubt the police will be very helpful then.

Other point:
The lexus could have been stolen and now its ditched in some back road. And the actual owner is having a nightmare themselves.
