Need Help IDing this Gorgonian

some gorgonia seem to do so well in tanks, others just starve away.. probably a food suitability issue, as mentioned by others. i sure hope yours thrives, it is absolutely beautiful. i've seen the purple with brown polyps but never those dark purple polyps. very nice. good luck!

I had a Gorgonian similar yours for over a year. I lost it when I forgot to plug my chiller back in and my tank overheated. It is the coral that I still miss the most.

I agree with Justin that you should trim the areas where the living "flesh" has receded. Be sure to cut with very sharp scissors and cut well into the "fleshy" area so that there is no exposed core. Tissue loss happens very quickly with Gorgonians. I have managed to save a few by keeping them trimmed and algae free. Keep it in a pretty high flow area so that the algae can not easily attach.

I target feed my Gorgonians from time to time after lights out. I find that using a turkey baster and squirting gently so that they don't just close up their polyps works well.

Good luck, you have a very beautiful animal. If you want some help in person, let me know.
