I'd just do an intake bulkhead with strainer and split the return into two smaller return outlets. Should be good for a start.
For alternating flow you could add a SQWD if you want...but I don't like the reliability of them. For more money you have other better options available (like a squirt).
Yeah I thought about using an OM squirt.
Oh yeah this tank will mainly house LPS corals.
I was also leaning more towards having a sump return in addition to a closed loop.
If you went with a squirt on a closed loop I think you would be happy. I've got a 4-way on my closed loop and its really cool to watch the current alternate in my tank. I've been really happy with my 4-way, never had any problems with it.
Here's my journal I recently started. I haven't got to the part about describing the plumbing...that will probably be later this week or early next week.
