my wife got me a new hammer head.I have to run it from the basement upstairs to my 300.Can some of you show me your plumbing

I was thinking of running a manifold till I can get a 4way later.thanks in advance!!!

I haven't used a Hammerhead but have looked at them quite a bit for possible use...great product.

You say it goes in the basement and then will pump to the tank upstairs. You need to be sure to minimize any excess pressure drops as this is a low head pump (max head is 23 ft). This means minimum elbows, etc. and use at least 2in piping. You can find the pump curve at the following link...

Good luck.

the hammer isnt really a great head pump.Amazing flow pump though. if you can try the 1000 series for pumping from the basement. I would come out of the sump with 2" and reduce at the pump then the 1 1/2" up to a manifold

Are you using it for a return pump or a closed loop?

I've got a Sequence 1000 5000SEQ22.. It's currently running just under the floor from the tank on a closed loop (keeps noise downstairs). I ran 2" pipe all the way from the 1 1/2" instake bulkhead in the tank to the pump and all the way back up to the tank where it splits into two 1 1/2" returns.

I DID have it running as a sump return pump originally though. It was WAY too much sump turnover for my setup (140g main tank, 100g sump) though.

My return pump is plumbed with all 2" pipe from the basement up to the tank where it splits to a manifold in the canopy with four 3/4" outlets.

I think you'll get the best bang for the buck if you plumb that in as a closed loop.

I also run a hammerhead for my return from the basement. It goes through 4-3/4 lockline out the overflows and a 5ft spraybar in the middle back of tank. Works great.

tgunn.....below is a pic of my sohol tang that is looking right at me like your avatar.

I was thinking of running it with 4 two inch returns back into the main tank using 45 elbows to angle the flow in my 300

Nice picture! I think I've got a similar posing of my yellow tang. They seem to like that pose.

The thing you may run in to wih using four 2" returns in the tank is getting them to all have the same amount of flow coming out.

I ran into this with my closed loop. My closed loop splits from 2" plumbing into two 1 1/2" bulkheads in the tank. No problem, each gets even flow.

However, in the tank I tried putting a wye on each of the 1 1/2" bulkheads and having two 1 1/2" outlets (in effect four outlets total). I found that the flow would "choose" the branch of the wye with the least resistance and just blast out of that one.

You're probably best coming from the pump with 2" plumbing and then splitting to four 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 outputs going into the tank. This should help keep the pressure at each outlet more even.

If yours is not straight up and down you might think about using 2" PVC hose for the return . My basement sump is offset about 25' and the Hammerhead moves 2200 gallons an hour with the ball valve half open .

I think I am going to run it on a closed loop.any one have any ideas on how many intakes and returns I need?I am goingto get a 4 way in a couple of months but need to go ahead and get this going

I will have to drain the tank down to drill it or run everything over the top and ideas

I've got my pump running on a single 1 1/2" intake in the tank. My intake has a large intake screen on it so the flow is diffused considerably and not enough to capture anything. I'd personally go with two 1 1/2" intakes though. It'd distribute the suction that much more...

On your 300 I'd probably go with four outlets. You'll get quite a strong diffuse flow at each outlet. Once you get the 4-way you might have to split it into 6 because all that flow from two outlets will be considerable..Depends what your overall flow plans are though.

thanks tgunn well the wife doesn`t want me to drain the tank and drill it.So I need to run the intake over the top and down into the tank

I am going to use 4 returns with 45 elbows on them.I will cover them with a screan like you said

Over the back would work just as well. Just make sure to put a tee where the pipe goes over the back with a ball valve so you can pour water into the pipes to prime the pump if you ever need to take it offline.
