Need help plumbing return lines to multiple tanks

Hello everyone,

I am building a bigger and better broodstock system for breeding fish effors. When I am done I will have around 23 tanks on two sets of three tier shelves. I am trying to determine the best way to plumb the reutrn from the sump to them.

Should I just do a closed loop type set-up using 1.0 PVC with multiple outlets? Another thought I had was to pump the water to a resevoir made out of maybe 6-8" PVC by 8' long and put multiple outlets in it and let gravity get the water to the tanks.

I want to run one return system and tap off it to all the tanks, not mutiple returns for each tier of each shelving unit. I hope my description is clear enough.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Dave,

For my system I used a loop with taps located at each tank. That way I am guaranteed a steady flow to all taps. I use 25mm (1") pipe, hard plumbed to an OR6500 pump.

Hope this helps.

I there any worry about air getting trapped in a large closed loop system, if so how would you bleed it out?

Thanks for the help Steve

It's a little hard to see, but I used drum bungs to keep costs down.

It comes out where the water comes out. More concern is continuously letting air into and out of the drain lines. If no air can escape, you will not drain properly.

Dave,

So far to date, and I am still in the process of finsishing off, I have not had a worry about air. The water pressue from the pump that I am using, clears all the pipe work, and when I have run the system a little on the low side, then when I topped up there was no problems.

I run a submerged pum to assist in the heating. Sorry should have added that in the original reply.
