need help setting up email and text alerts

User name (what username are they looking for?apex or email)
User password (what password are they looking for?apex or email)
Email test

this is what my aquacontroller email set up looks like

so do i need to switch the from and 2 addresses? or just put my email in the From Address? and the email username in the username spot

You can send email to yourself... it's OK

You can even make up an email addy to use for the From: address... i.e. TheTank@DexsBigBadReef.com. It does not need to be a valid address, just a properly-formatted address. The To: address, of course, needs to be a real address.

In the User Guide there are instructions for enabling email logging via telnet. That will help narrow where the problem is if you can post those results.

im running a mac, i dont think i can access dos or telenet, im not too computer savvy. i just cant figure it out iv been trying for an hr now

I could be wrong here, but I think some email providers require the "From" address to match the account's email address.

You are correct - some do actually validate the From: address, but that is rare IME. In most cases, it doesn't matter.

Yes you can do that - have both from: and to: the same. That's what I meant in a previous post by "you can send email to yourself"

Are you sure of that SMTP server name? Shouldn't it be 'smtp.att.yahoo.com'?

Dex, since you are on Time-Warner, use this for the SMTP server setting: 'smtp-server.stny.rr.com'

The SMTP port should be '25'

Turn email authentication OFF
