Hey guys,

Im new to the hobby and was wondering if anyone had some advise. I have a stock JBJ 45 rl. Looking for some advice on the upgrades I want to do.

1. Neptune Apex With ph probe.
2. Breakout box for ATO
3. Refugium on left media basket with JBJ nano light.
4. Tunze 9004 protein skimmer
5. 2 Jebao RW 4
Is this overkill for this tank. I have a few fishes and some soft corals.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I just started the same tank your looking to get going.

I don't think what you have planned for the 45 is too much at all.

Check out this this tank, i currently follow this guy's build as I work on mine.

I am currently running:
Tunze Osmolator Nano ATO
2 Jebao RW 4
CPR NanoTumbler Media Reactor with GFO
Currently using Stock Filter Baskets yet will be modifying them once i figure out a good way to utilize them.
JBJ Unibody 54 Watt LED Fixture

Looking to get:
Tunze 9004 Protein Skimmer
Apex JR.
Dosing Pumps.

Just finished the cycle a few days ago, currently housing 40 lbs of live rock, 20 lbs of Fiji Pink San, and a few snails to start depositing some bacteria. I add a few pellets of food to the tank every day or two to give those little guys something to munch on. I am going to add a little bit more to my clean up crew, and probably put my first fish in around december. I think its best to wait and have an estabished tank than jump in too quickly.

I am also looking to set up a temporary quarantine tank in the meantime and get that going. This is highly recommended as you will see there can be lots of problems with Ich. Spoke with my LFS and the not so local fish store i Order from and they were honest is saying there is a good chance all of their tanks have Ich. One had the nerve to say it's ok as long as the fish is eating, but I wouldn't count on it.

Another good source is CJ's Aquarium on You Tube. He has a build of the same tank he updates every couple of weeks.

Hope it work out for you, I'll have my own Build once I get all the equipment and some Fishs in there.

Thanks for the info. I will look into CJ's Aquarium on youtube. Looking forward to seeing pics of your tank.
