hey guys, new to the forum here, im always on so finally decided to sign up and ask some Q's. I sold an old 55G tank to upgrade to a new 150G. my old one had all hang on back stuff which worked perfect for a few years. but wanted to upgrade to a bigger setup. so heres my new toy... a 150G oceanic tank with one corner over flow and one hole drilled for 1" plumbing. the good thing about this tank is its older and NONE of it is tempered. The previous owner actually installed the overflow and bulkhead. so my set up is limitless as far as adding another overflow or holes. my questions are about the sump and equipment, Iv decided to build my own instead of buying. I have a few old tanks laying around so i picked a 20G long for my sump. Here is what im thinking. the overflow will dump onto a foam filter element with carbon under it. where it will flow UNDER the first damn and into the section with my skimmer, it will then flow to my refugium. then through a bubble trap, possibly with foam in it to help out. and end up in the last chamber where the return pump will be. so heres my questions.... will this set up function properly for my needs? what would work best in the refugium, (sand, rock, mud, type of plants...etc.) and what size pump will i need for my return?. another problem is that i want to run a UV also.. should i just get a bigger return pump and a "T" to flow one line to the tank, and the other to the UV then that line to the tank also?. and finally... is one 1" overflow enough circulation for a 150G ? i was thinking about adding another overflow to the other corner. have 2 1" lines running to the sump. and have my return lines running back up through the overflows andover the top of it so no lines are outside of the tank itself for a more clean look. so EVERY suggestion, insult, comment will be appreciated on all this. Thanks guys.
