Need help, whole tank has ich!

I just switched over from a 100 gallon to a 215 gallon tank. I thought the move would be GOOD for the fish, but I guess the move stressed the fish b/c they ALL have gotten ich! I did add a couple of new fish when I set up the new tank, and they have it too!

I don't know what to do. I could copper the tank, but I have live rock in the tank. I have no way to take the LR or fish out either (no place to put either).

What do I do? I have some expensive fish in there!

Would Seachem's "Cupramine" be safe to use?

Or Ruby Reef's Kick ich?

I'm going to have to just treat the whole tank somehow. I just really don't want to kill off all my live rock!

still got that 100 gallon ? if so use that and treat with copper. If thats not an option youre gonna have a tough battle.......I don't know what to tell you if you cant' get the fish or rock out. I'd say get some garbage cans for the LR and have the 215 empty and treat. But you'll need some bio media. There is hope, but its gonna be expensive......either way if you don't want to nuke the rock with copper then you gotta remove it and let it be without fish for a minimum of 4 weeks, you can "feed" the LR with some frozen foods a couple times a week to keep its bio properties alive. Then you can treat the 215 with copper for like 2-3 weeks, monitor and test daily for copper and test very often for NH3 and nitrites and nitrates. Because you have no bio media for the fish waste you'll have to add something like Seachem Prime and Stability, and on top of that do water changes when needed. It'll be an expensive way to do it cause you have no QT tank. I learned the hard way also and now QT all fish. Good luck.

You can try the hypo salinaty treatment. I have had tremendous success with it . Also get some garlic extreme to keep fishes appetite strong.

Ruby Reef and Kick Ich all are sceptacle, do a search on it, mabey worth a shot, but will be EXPENSIVE to do like I said above.....if moneys not an option then try the Kick Ich, sense you don't have inverts I'd say give it a shot, but if you can afford the long treatment that is recommended....

Garlic will MABEY suppres the ich, not get rid of it out of youre system. It may also help the fish with its immune system, but wont rid the ich. I would definitly soak foods with garlic daily, but hypo will kill youre LR.

most treatments which claim to be reef safe are not. Kick ich is garbage and will damage or kill some inverts. especially starfish and brittle stars.

Unless Kich Ich works for you , or you don't mind nuking youre LR with copper, then the LR must come out to succesfully treat the display.

Does Kick Ich work? I'm not afraid to give it a shot. Worst case I will just copper the tank. May damage my LR, but I can replace that. I cannot replace my fish!

Here is an adrdress for a good article explaining hyposalinityhttp://www.petsforum.com/personal/trevor-jones/hyposalinity.html I have not only done a search but as i said I have had great success with this treatment and you wont have to introduce any foreign materials to your system. At any rate good luck to you.

& add a uv

Have a UV. Spent $200 on it!

I soaked their food in garlic this morning. All of them act completely normal and eat fine. I might just keep hammering the garlic and hope they get over it. They are all big hardy fish.

Has anyone used a product called "Marine Max" ? It's a 2 bottle formula that is supposed to be completely safe and cures ich?

I have never heard that any of that stuff works especially kick ich. I had something that worked for me and you may want to try it. I fed 3 times a day for 2 weeks making sure to feed foods that specific fish require(like greens for tangs and sponge for angels)and watched my parameters very closely as well as the fish behavior(No fighting). Usually ich pops up from stressful conditions. Once the fish are made to be comfortable they can fight it on their own. Ph and salinity swings can be hard so really watch those especially ph. Pulling them out and putting in an unestablished hospital tank with ammonia spiking and copper saturated usually makes it worse IMO.

Yeah, that is exactly what I was thinking. All my fish are eating and acting normal. Haven't seen any fighting whatsoever. I'm thinking they are all just a little stressed out from the move to a new tank. I'm just going to keep them well fed and watch my water quality closely. But with my skimmer & UV sterilizer I don't see how my water could get bad. If I notice any of them stop eating or act weird then I might do something dramatic...

The stress the fish went thru when you moved them did not cause the ich. The ich came in on the new fish you didn't quarantine. Will you QT in the future?
