Need help with choosing wavemaker pumps/system - Energy Efficient!

There is no way without SERIOUS MODIFICATION (involving an outboard motor) that an MJ 900 is putting out 3,000 gph.
LMAO!!!!! thats halarious! haha

No I reallllllllllly have GOT to try that Mod to the Maxi's....

I will do it on MJ1200 though... for a 210... so that will be NO DOUGHT some SERIOUS KICK BUTT DONKEYDONK water movement!!! for mear cheap sand... dirt... uh... potato chips?... OH PEANUTS! yeah..

Yeah, Tunze are great pumps dont get me wrong... but IM NOT spending that kinda money on a propeller when I can make my own for a fraction of that!

Come on guys. I'm sure the MJ mod does have some good benefits, but don't you think the manufacturer would implement them and say, split the diff or something with a Tunze pricewise? They would have to be incredible idiots to sell the things for $20 or so when they could get much, much more if they could.

Or conversely, Tunze could be capturing much more of the market than they are by offering a smaller line of streams. Why don't they make a stripped down version appropriate for a 55 gallon tank?

Just like MJ, it doesn't fit with their business model for whatever reason and they don't do it. Who knows, maybe the good folks at Aquarium Systems are working on this for 2006. That still doesn't change the fact that many people get exceptional results from something that costs very very little when compared to a Tunze.

Re-machining for new parts isn't cheap when you're talking about mass manufacturing. Not only that Aquarium Systems would also have to do all sorts of R&D as well as laboratory tests to back up the product. They would have to come up with a new mount for the change as well and that too will require re-machining. Then there's marketing and advertisement. Also there's the legal aspects behind this just like everything else a company does.

The combined cost might not make sense for Aquarium Systems when the original MaxiJets are selling like hot cakes as they are already.

And like ChemE stated, how do we know Aquarium Systems isn't already working on a new pump that will incorporate a propeller?
Taam came out with the SEIO didn't they. And then there's that new Vortech pump from Ice Cap that everyone is buzzing about. I think we will continue to see more new pump designs that will be competitive with the Tunze.

Don't get me wrong, I think Tunze makes very good pumps. Just unrealistically priced. Don't be surprised to see the Tunze prices start dropping once the Vortech from Ice Cap is released in February.

D.

The most energy effecient? Set up a surge. It'll kick on any of the options noted and requires no added pumps. Just "T" off your sump return line.
