Ok guys so good new! 5th week and Ammonia is now 0ppm and I have .50ppm nitrite and 40ppm nitrates. So cycle is in gear, as I mentioned before this method I'm using this go round is new to me adding pure ammonia and bacteria , so my next question should I add a fish to continue the cycle or add more ammonia and make sure it convert within 24 hrs? It's starting to get exciting haha ,thanks

Let nitrites zero out, showing 40ppm of nitrates means you have already processed a substantial amount of ammonia. If you are going to go slow with stocking you could add fish at this point, when nitrites are zero. Most of time people only cycle through once and then start adding slowly. Dr Tim;s instructions to keep cycling through until you have 2ppm of ammonia process in 24 hours is for you to be able able to add a huge bioload all at once. When you are ready to add do a huge water change and bring those nitrates down, I wouldn't be happy for anything over 10ppm so even at this point 75% water change. If you want to add several fish at once and want to cycle through again, you always let your ammonia and your nitrites zero out before you dose more ammonia.

Ok so I'm tryin to get this. So before I add anything to the tank I want my nitrites to zero out then add fish or add more ammonia? So either way I want nitrites to zero out. And if I add a fish do a huge water change, should I do a huge water change either way?

Either way because you don't want your nitrates to get totally out of control, just do the water change before you dose ammonia again if you choose.

Don't add any more ammonia. The bacteria won't starve it can go for a long while without ammonia. When Nitrites and ammonia zero out execute a water change to lower your nitrates. Then add a fish or two per month. :fish2::fish2:

So you recommend not adding more pure ammonia and go with fish to creat ammonia, sounds more fun! So would adding more pure ammonia hurt or delay the cycle even more. I just want to make sure I have enough bacteria in the system so I don't kill anything my fish addition is goin to be a pair of clowns and a bt . any thoughts on that?
