Need help with Flame Angel id M or F?

Hello Flame Angel Owners out there,

I need your help, I have a Flame angel in my tank already and I wanted to add another but need to know if the one I have is a male or female.

If it's a male, is it possible to add an female? and if it's a female, can I add a male?

you will need a better picture with clear view on the shape of the dorsal fin & anal fin (rounded or pointed) in order to tell.

The picture is a little hard to tell.

But, you can see in the following picture -- the pointed one (( larger )) is the male, and the rounded one (( smaller )) is the female.

Since it looks like it's a male, would it be safe to add a female to the tank after the male?

He does check out every new addition to the tank, one of the most aggressive fish in the tank when introducing a new fish.

Even if the op had purchased it as a female, wouldn't it eventually change sex without the presence of a male, or am I mistaken?

Landon, you are correct.

To the OP:

I would suggest you find a small female for your male to pair with. Make sure that you QT the female first. Also a clear acclimation box is very helpful for introducing new fish.
