Need help with identification.

I just set up a 65 gal reef tank, and I need help identifying an invertebrate that I just recently noticed. There are seven small brownish tubes on a piece of rock that I assumed were dead. The other day I noticed that they were open, so now I'm wondering what the heck they are. I've attached a view from the front, and one from the top, although there not the sharpest pictures. I'm still trying to figure out how to get good shots.

Also, recommendations for a good identification book would be much appreciated.

looks like palyothoa to me...they are most likely toxic, so be careful.

Otherwise known as button polyps. Some are toxic, some are not. They grow like weeds though and if you don't want them, take them out now and scrub them off. Kalk paste works and then brush them off with a wire brush. Any part left on the rock, they will grow back.

Thanks for the ID, now I guess I just have to decide wether to keep them.

Don't touch them with your bare skin in case you're prone to reactions.
