I just received my croacia clam and it had lost his foot or what ever that is call. thay use this to attach them self into rock or things. I am not very expirience in calms so i do not know if it will make it. will it survived with out it? here is some pix so you people will know what i am talking about.

Looks like he's opening up... So he's happy...

Take a shot when he's in the tank and settles in...

If he doesn't open up much or at all.... Then there'a problem..

One of my squamosa's lost it's foot but has lived 6 months....

also can some one tell me the best way to feed a 2 inch clam? i know that they need alot of feeding but i cant direct feed couse ill kill it. how do you people feed your small clams? i was thinking to feed microvert almost every day. also with phytoplex almost every day too. however i want for him to get the most food as possible.

He is continuing to open up very nice, but his mouth is also open very wide. he is about 3 inchs wide and his mouth is open about 1 inch wide. is this normal, i can see all the inside of the clam?

it sounds like he is gaping (when the mouth is open really wide) which means he is not doing so well.

I feed my tank daily with live phyto. I squirt it in the tank and in the general vicinity of the clam. HTH

Did you buy the clam without it's footing (byssal thread)? If so, it may or may not recover. I just lost one of my clams the other day after it decided to detach itself from the rock. Also was gapping after that. Before all of that, it was doing great.

I sure hope your clam pulls through.

The clam has attach itself on to the rock! I try to move it little to the side and i notice that i could not move it cause it was attach to it. how can that happen?

Is this the same clam that was in that bag in the first post? I thought you said it attached itself to a rock or is this another clam. Help me out a bit. I'm somewhat confuse.

I'm not too sure what you can do if it lost it's byssal thread. Just hope for the best.

TY for the clarification. The only thing you can do is to pray the clam pulls through.

I would just feed the tank/clam more often and in the meantime keep your water parameters in check, (mainly CA and ALK).
