Need help with my Octopus 110 Skimmer

Ok so I just got this skimmer today and just put it in the sump..turned it on and it seems like its working but its foaming into the collection cup....what am i doing wrong??? the water it collected is only half way up the chamber not going up to the collection cup

It takes a while for a skimmer to break in and to build up a slime. Don't worry about it too much yet.

I have an Octopus Recirc 110 and I adjust the water level until it is almost at the top of the body. This gives me a consistent, dryish foam.

If yours isn't a recirc, then you'll have to ensure that it is set at the right depth in your sump, so you may have to raise or lower it. I don't know what the normal operating depth is for yours, but it should be in the instructions.

Are you sure that you assembled it correctly? Seems to me that I've read a similar post to yours and the fellow had one pipe in backwards.

Which 110? Is this the recirculating version? If so, what feed pump did you buy for it? Also, in this case, there are two ways to adjust the water height. The first would be to adjust the feed pump, the second would be to turn the should vertical tube (or gate valve depending on the model), to adjust the water height. Turn it a little bit and wait a bit, it will rise slowly. if nothing starts to happen, turn it a bit more, but be patient for it to rise, don't go too fast.

If it is a non-recirculating, there is a vertical tube with water coming out of the top. You slide this tube up and down to adjust the water level. Again, go slow.

I think there may also be some HOB versions, but I am not familiar with these...

So, this is non-recirculating? They changed the design a bit, but you chould be able to just turn the red knob. However, in the pic, I can't tell if the water output is slightly submersed? That could be a problem if so, I'm not that familiar with that model.

i tried everything...i sat the skimmer on rocks to lift it up..no luck...let it sit lower no luck...when i turn the valve it just doesn't do anything...i'm so lost:sad1:

Your adjusting it too much.. The water level dosn't need to be at the top, over time, the foam will build and climb up the tube. It may be especially sensitive as it's breaking in. Adjust slowly and wait as it gets "dirtier", the foam will build.

ok i got it adjusted where the level is right about to go up the skinny tube in the collection cup...this skimmer is way to sensitive...if i touch it once itll get all messed up
