about three week ago i broke my rock down just to get rid of a maroon clown who had killed about 300$ worth of coral. i tried trapping him with a trap but if finally got so tied of him after he killed a frogspawn, i broke the rock down and caught him... what i wasnt thinking about were my NITRATES and AMMONIA...from moving the rock and stirring up the sand bed these pesky elemts sky rocketed immediately...but my point is im having somewhat of an algae breakout and some of my rock has brown algae or dead spots i presume. i am pretty sure that the my trites and trates are causing this. What can i do. Thks for any help you all have always been so helpful

water changes are great and for a lazy way to lower nitrates, check into sugar dosing. Helped eliminate mine. But i exhausted all other options first.

AZ-NO3 with water changes. I am having the same problem as you with nitrates right now but I have been able to half mine in about a week. I believe if I keep up this effort I will get down to 0 in about 3 more weeks. Good luck!

It sounds like you had a ton of detritus on your rock. Before every what change from here out I would suggest using a turkey baster to blow off the rock so you can suck all that junk out. In the future, if you move rock again, you will not have this same problem.
