Need help with noise reduction

I just set up a 56 tall setup with a 20 tall as a sump. It's a two compartment sump with skimmer in first and pump in second. The return drain is the type that turns down with holes drilled in the 90. There is so much noise coming from the return either in the overflow or where it dumps into the sump. If I reduce flow the noise goes away but the water flows over the divider in the sump. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

In your sump plumb your main line under the level of the water. That will avoid splashing in the sump.

If your overflow is loud due to a waterfall effect either raise the plumbing in the over flow, or zip tie ziplock bags to the wiers to prevent splashing.
