Need help with noisy overflow

First off, I have read a ton of great advise on this site. Unfortunately, before I drilled and installed my overflow, I did not.

This is my first "real" aquarium. I have had 10 gallon tanks and such throughout my life. I always wanted a nice salt water tank and since I finally bought a house and I will not have to worry about moving it, I pulled the trigger.

I am an avid DIY guy, so I ordered some diamond hole saws, verified my tank was not tempered, and Googled some pics. This was about 3 months ago. For the life of me, I do not know what I read or if I thought a big ol' hole (1.5in pipe) and a low profile overflow box would be awesome. It would take a wad of algae and 50 snails to plug this thing up.

Flash forward to today and I got it all plumbed up and grabbed the garden hose, time for a wet run. I am happy with my sump ( I can shut off the pump and not overflow the sump) Mag 5 pump seems to flow good, and the drain is CRAZY loud.

I scoured the internet and read where a guy ran a tube down his sump drain to let some air out. I drilled the elbow and put in a 3/8 line. I played with moving it up and down and it did knock it from 120db to 90 (slight exaggeration)

I have tried throttling back the pump but I really want to have good flow. I think the mag 5 does well but does not have a lot of extra to lose.

With the low profile overflow box, there is no way to put an elbow inside and make a standpipe for a gurgle buster or similar concoction. I am trying to figure out how to make some kind of siphon and use what I have now for an emergency drain. The problem with that is with the box I currently have, there is not an adequate water level because I drilled my hole where the drain is at the bottom of the overflow and the top of the overflow is where I want the water level to be above the trim.

Please help, there are a lot of people on here with knowledge and experience, both of which I am lacking. Here is a short video of it in operation.
