Could you describe "bad health" ? Are the sps faded, bleached, tissue loss etc?

Generally speaking, the advice I feel is correct and have had success with in the past is to place the SPS low in the tank and provide good indirect flow.

Stable parameters and time from there. If you have a good means of nutrient export, feeding a coral food appropriate for SPS will help.

LPS should be placed low and in moderate to low flow and fed depending on the type of LPS.

Patience, time, and stability will do wonders. If the SPS are STNing or RTNing you may have to frag and hope for the best.

not sure what STN. Or RTN means but I pretty much broke down a setup I bought moved it home set tank back up withouth all the rock half of it let tank clear up for 2 hours then seperated sps and lps at bottom of tank with moderate flow I took a 250gph pump w hose a washed trash off monti caps since I don't have a lot of experience with sps I dont know how to tell what colors or if its bleached or faded. I have 8 45 w t5 over tank 4 directly on tank and 4 5 inches off tank. Ph 8.4. Temp79-80. Specific gravity 1.025. Ammonia 5 haven't tested anything else I've been adding purple up as directed and I'm running gfo and carbon reactor. Please let me know if I'm doing anything wrong thanks. About how long should it take for recovery I planned on transfering to another tank in 3 weeks. If they survive. I added about 30 percent fresh salt water to tank also. Tank is 75 with 20 sump almost 100 gal total there's a lot of corals. Ill try to post pics in morning. Thanks -Gary

an ammonia level of 5 is most likely the cause of your problems. you must have done something to cause a cycle in the tank.

The problem that started was the temp drop. The guy I purchased the setup said his wife left the window open in the room 2 weeks ago when it was cold outside and the heater couldn't keep up with temp and when he woke up to see his tank not doing so hot and found window open I'm assuming it led to a huge fight which led to tank being sold. Ill send a couple pics in a min w just actinics on

with actinics just turning on

with actinics just turning on

I have no idea what a lot of these are just the monti caps, birdsnest, hydnophora, digi, frogspawn, galexea, zoas,

any lvl of ammonia is bound to cause problems. i hate to break it to you, but from the looks of the pictures, i only see one coral that looks like it will make it. all the rest seem to be dying.

i think the best thing you can do is do some water changes and TEST ALL your parameters. If you think you a coral will survive, find someone from a local club or something and ask them to hold on to it for you.

Slow down there. I see lots of coral in those pictures which have an excellent chance of making it with good water quality and stable parameters.

You effectively removed half the biological filter when you took out half the rock (if I understand your post correctly). That's not helping your ammonia levels. First get the chemistry correct and stable. I would frag anything that continues to lose tissue.

After doing more research and retesting water and having lfs test water here is what I came up with for parameters. PH:8.3....Ammonia:0.25......nitrite:0.....nitrate:5....cal:25drops...po: 0.25...kh:9 drops...

Cal high due to purple up stopped that. Ammonia due to couple tubs of not so good softies smellin up sump real good fixed that problem. So now I guess its just time. I was told by someone at lfs to take a pump and hose and blow skin off monti caps and acros or whatever has sacks . Should I do this or no. Thanks -Gary
