I'm adding a sump to my 72 gallon bow front today. I have a couple questions to ask you guys. The over flow box is an eshopps pf300(300 gph). My return pump is an ehiem 2000(260-530 gph).

Question 1- what size should my return line be? I'm thinking 1"- 1 1/4". The overflow line is 1 1/4".

Question 2- coming straight off the pump, should I go flexible hose, then pvc? Doesn't seem like any pvc fittings would fit on the pump. Tried a 1/2" fitting and it was pretty lose.

Thanks in advance.

For Q2: I have a compact 2000+, I think it's the same pump, a nozzle with a barb?
I think it's meant to fit vinyl tubing (like fatter airline) over the connector. I don't recall the size, but you want the tubing a bit small, and put it in hot water to get it a bit softer. Then it slides over the male adapter nice and tight. The pump comes with hose clamps that are like circles with teeth to close them, that goes over the tubing behind the Barb on the spout. I believe ehiem sells a tubing kit, but regular tubing worked for me and I used the rest to make a sand vac. I did have to order a valve that fit tubing to tune the overflow though, and it's a little fussier than a proper pvc valve.

For Q1 I would just use whatever connects to the outlet on the box easiest.

Thanks. I ran 1 1/4 off the overflow. Went with tubing right off the pump, then a barbed male adapter, pvc coming off that to the tank. I ran a 1" return line. You think that's alright.
