i just got my suncoral and its the second day with the polyps not extending. But when i turn the lights off they come out more. I have 3 175 mh for lights and the suncoral is right on the bottom with direct lighting on it. anything to make it come out?

that is true put it under a cave so it does not get the direct light. Also you will need to feed your sun coral. If you do a basic sun coral search it will tell you everything you should need to know. Good luck.

sun polyps are more nocturnal. once they get used to your feeding you can get them to come out during the day because they know they will get fed then

I have an orange tube coral (similar type of coral).

I turn the power heads off and put some PE mysis on the coral. I let it sit on the coral for about 5 minutes or so and the polyps will start to come out.

There are several methods you can try: remove the coral from the tank and place it in a container with tank water, add some amino acids and some cyclpeeze or whatever food you choose. If you leave it in there for a few minutes it should come out, when it does use a turkey baster to get some flow in the container so it can get some bites. You can also use the top 1/2 of a 2 liter coke and make a feeding cone, same idea as above just in the tank.

It's quite a process be patient. Keep offering food in the mornings I would say maybe 30 mins after or before your lights turn on. It might take a day it even a week but it will e entually come out for you.

although sun corals are nocturnal they can be "taught" to open up during the day. This takes time and patience. After a week of feeding mine during the day using 1/2 plastic bottle as described above, it now opens up at daytime. A little patience and feeding at the same time everytime . They are beautiful corals easy to keep w/ good water params and target feeding. Good Luck !

here's an older pic of mine

It will likely spend most of it's day closed up, although with my 4 colonies, they tend to react more to food than light. Light just seems to be a trigger to tell them to close up. Once I get them to open again with food, they will stay open for hours.

Find a place (under an overhang), and let it be. Spray juice from meaty foods across it several times a day, especially at 'dusk' and it will start opening in a few days. Then you can actually feed it. Don't move it around, they get very ****ed off.

If the coral was in good health, you it can last quite awhile without being fed, so patience is your key. Once it is open, you will want to feed it several times a week by spot feeding meaty foods, mysis, whatever...

I am not sure what flavor your suncoral is, but the degree of ****yness seems to be Yellow>Orange> Green>Black...meaning yellow are the most forgiving and black are the least.

Boy! i can just say keep trying and check your water parameters regularly, it will take time to come, let it adjust in the tank. Don't put it in the direct light.

Above were the precautions which i received here from other members but i failed in keeping it healthy, resulting in, it died! Even it didn't came out ever :spin2: i bought it in healthy condition but didn't succeedd :mixed: I tried very hard to feed it but failed again and again i Can just suggest you to be patient and keep trying... BeSt Of LuCk!!! :)
