That article is a good overview of all the relevant water parameters. Assuming you've got a good batch of salt, measuring the SG and the temperature should be fine for initial setup. After the live rock goes into the tank, you could start measuring alkalinity and Ca, as well as ammonia.
Getting a practice round with your other test kits might be useful, too, and that could help double-check your salt mix.
I agree. For adding live rock, temperature and specific gravity. Then alkalinity, calcium, and pH start to become important over the next few weeks as you track ammonia.
Depending on how good the quality of the rock is you might want to wash it out with R/O water.I don't know if your are buying good live rock or some that just arrived with alot of dead stuff on it.
