Hello all,

I need some help. I have a feeling if I bought all the stuff I could figure it out. But I would have no idea if its safe or if I did it right!

So I am asking for some help.

This is my plan:

The first thing you need to do is figure out how many watts each plug set will draw. Total up the watts and divide by 125, this will give you amps. A normal household circuit is 15 amps with a working load of around 12 amps. Depending on the size of your lights and pumps you may need more than one circuit. Do you plan on running all of the lights off of one timer? You might want to pick up a book on basic wiring at your local home store as a start.

I agree about getting a book! When you say a circuit you mean one plug, right?
If so, I was planning on having 2 or 4 in the wall behind the tank. Since I am moving into a house that hasent been built yet, and this is where my new tank will be set up.

So I will be able to put whatever I want in the wall behind the tank!

You say you're having the house built...Have your electrician install at least 1, if not 2ea dedicated 20 amp circuits in the wall behind or near the area for the fish tank. This will insure you have plenty of power for whatever you chose to run. Have him install a GFCI receptacle for each.

FYI: when speaking of household wiring, a circuit is everything that is connected and controlled by a single circuit breaker. A normal household circuit may have 10 or more outlets on it. A dedicated circuit is a single circuit breaker controlling a single device, outlet, or appliance.

Yea, I can have whatever I want there. Its a New home (dirt lot right now)!I have 5 months to build my 120gal.

I was going to have GFCI for sure. I want that in the power center too.

Ive wired switches, ballasts, and outlets before. But I've never done multiple tied together like this.

Thant is the kind of setup I have now...I am trying to conseal it into a smaller cleaner unit. Setups Like that take up sooo much room!

Thank you though...
