Need help- yellow water

Hi guys, I am new to the saltwater experience. I have a 90 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump set up. The tank has been running for about 6 months. There are a few corals doing good, one clown, and one neon dotty back. I am currently having issues with my water conditions. I use RO/DI water for the tank. The water has appeared to be cloudy and yellow to color. Started the protein skimmer probably about a week ago. Just added some carbon and some organic adsorption resin by kent marine. Will this help reduce the color? How long does it take to have affect? Or, is there something else I should be doing? Thanks! :spin3:

Have you been testing your water? What is the nitrate level? How about phosphates? Have you been doing water changes? If so, how large and how often? What is the flow rate (turnover per hour)?

How is the skimmer performing? The carbon should start clearing thingsup in a couple days. The yellow color maybe a growth of Plankton. What have you been feeding and how much? Could be a sign of overfeeding.

The carbon should take up most of the color out of the water in time. That time period can be longer if you are just floating a filter bag in sump, but I'm thinking should be noticeably clearer in 1-2 days? Not sure not an expert by any stretch. You might want to think about a small reactor you can get them for under 100. They rip out colors quick like, Bulk Reef Supply has some videos showing how fast colors are reduced in tank. The cloudiness could be bacteria bloom.
