Need help

I need some direction/advice. I started noticing some tissue recession at the base of this acro frag. The area looks like it has some brown stuff on it. Is this a disease? How do I stop it? Should I just cut it off? Also, could this be caused by the algae that's growing around it?

The frag has been growing really well for me and there is a lot of PE on it. Thanks for any help.

As I have not had to deal with this particular pest yet, I am just speculating, but you may be dealing with AEFW. Regardless, that tissue doesn't look like it is coming back. If it were me, I would frag it above the damage and remount it. A dip might be in order also.

Hopefully, someone with more experience than I will chime in.

Maybe you could give us some more info. IE, How long have you had this frag? When did you noitice that the problem started? How fast is it progressing? Any other corals looking different at all, especially at the base?

Apisto,

I've had the frag for about a month and a half now. I can't remember when I first saw it but I don't think it has been progressing that fast. I'm looking at other frags but they seem to be all fine. What does AEFW stand for? I'm new to SPS and this was an easy one a friend gave me and I was thinking if this survives then I can do SPS. Thanks for your advice.

Apisto,

I think you are right. I saw a small brown pod-like organism go pass by the base of the acro this morning.
