Hello everyone,

I hope I don't have to post pictures, otherwise I have to go find tools to resize the pictures first. Anyway, I have 2 questions:
1- I have one brown brain corral, (I think), the days before I change water( I change every week), it kinds of open a little, after I changed water, it opens like a baloon. I just have it recently, I just notice it acts like that for a few weeks. Can some one explain?
2- I have some little balls, most of them are green, couples are pink, starts very small, now grow like a marble size. Could you identify them? good, bad?

Thanks, Vincent

The little balls could be bubble algae, look for some pics online to help get an ID.
Sorry cant help you with first question.

i dont know about the first one either, but i second the bubble algae idea...do a google image search for "bubble algae" and it should show up.

Here is the picture, hope they will help you to help me:)

ok from the pic it looks more like a sponge, not bubble algae. Sponges can grow in all shapes (and colors and sizes ;) ) and the pic is too fuzzy to make a perfect ID, so i'll put a link to some bubble algae and just compair it to the pics.

The second one tho isnt a brain i dont believe. I think my lfs has those for sale listed as "fungia plate corals"...i'll look for a link for that too.

Heres the fungia coral...

is that a brain, or is it a PLATE? fugia....hmm?
i would say thier sponges at first glanca of the hard to make out picture. and the most common bubble algae has a name. Valonia

So it is fungia, what about the behavior that I asked, is it normal?
and first pics is not buble agea, could be sponge like you said. Is it good or bad?
thanks, vincent.

That is normal behavior for the plate coral. Sounds like it's just doing what they do. The sponges are safe too. They can be some really cool colors.

ya and i also hear that sponges can be beneficial? is that true?

They are filter feeders and may help in that respect. These guys are so small though that I don't think they would have any real affect.

What is filter feeder, I heard this term a lots , but don't understand at all?
what do you feed coral? I really want to know this issue, I have not feed them at all.
thanks.
