I think just about anyone on the board would be willing to help. Perhaps attend a meeting and get to know some of the people. There are many different "techniques", and it depends on what kinds of corals you want to keep, at least to some degree. I would gladly help, but there are probably others who are closer to you.

Howdy, Scott.

Welcome to ETRC. Which side of town do you live on? I am sure a few people would be happy to meet and talk with you and show you a few things. If you come to the next meeting and ask for help, I am sure you'll get more information that you can digest in a few months. Just let us know what you are interested in (fish only, fish only with live rock, easy corals, full reef tank)...

In the meantime, try reading some of the following:

Like Dave mentions, it is likely better to see other systems and create a game plan. Stores typically want to move dry goods, so you'll get differing opinions based on what they sell. These boards will be a great place for you to bounce ideas off of people, as we are all attendees of the school of hard knocks...

The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Bob Fenner is a good place to start, as is The New Marine Aquarium by Michael Paletta.

A good book will establish the fundamentals, and then you can learn more from there.

This is the article I used as a guide, along with Tullock's Natural Reef Aquariums, when I got started. I would disagree now with ceartain parts of the article and it is somewhat dated but it still covers the basics fairly well and is largely very good info IMO:
