Need Help ???

good one

Can someone please give me some advice on this caulestrea??

I have several but never this color morph. I actually traded in a nice dark metallic green colony for this white one with light green centers.

I've had it for 3 days now and it opens mostly at night for feeking, however during the day, pretty closed.

My question would be is the light to high for this type? I have 2x 250watt 12K run on magnetic ballast. I'm thinking i might try to put in the shade and out of the flow.

here is a pic::

here is a pic of the tank before, and in middle you can see the green one that i traded in. it's right in the middel of the tank.

It should be fine. I have the same one as that and it looked pretty awful when I first brought it home. It slowly decided to open more and more, and now you can't even see between the polyps. Mine's even starting to be open throughout the day now. It is almost at the top of my tank directly under 2x250 HQI bulbs and has done great there.

No worries. Just feed it once in a while, and it should look great!

Here it is when I first brought it home:

You have that tang in a 46 gallon tank???

I wouldn't have traded those metallic greens for that one, I've never seen the metallicy ones and they're purdy ^_^. Otherwise it looks(to me) like the bleached colony that is at my LRS. The one I used to have looks like that one probably will when it colours up(brown with that same shade of green center) and it would be puffy in the day and extend really far at night. The one at the store still doesn't ever extend, though I haven't seen it at night to know if it does when the halides aren't on. . .

Edit: like the one in the post above mine ;)

I agree his does look a little bit bleached, much like mine did. It should recover no problem though. It's taken mine about 4 months to look like it should.

I would just keep an eye on it, keep it fed well since it probably is bleached.

Yes the naso is in a 46, but its' tiny and it will be in 120 in about 3 weeks as soon as the closing on my house goes thru. I bought when it was tiny and sick looking, i though i could save it and did. She is very fat and happy that's for sure. I can't wait to give her the room she needs to crank across the tank. Thanks for your concern. :)

As for the trade in, i love this piece and if looks anything like the one in the bottom pic i would pshyched!! I love that contrast. All my rock is purple, so i don't care if there is a little brown. the shape of this one is much cooler too.

Thanks for the advice

Hehehe you're lucky that all your rock is purple. Mine was... until I upgraded to MH about a month ago haha now all my rocks are bleached :(

really? i had that problem in some areas, but i increased my kalk and superbuffer dosage and it came right back. i just can't get it to grow on the glass????
the stuff encrusts over montipora faster than my monti' encrustes over it. it's crazy

Lol, see I don't have a problem with it growing on my glass or mag float at all, but it bleached off all my rocks. It's slowly coming back, but it just sucks.

i hear ya, i had a frag of some hydnophora and instead of growing out like it should b/c its a branching one, it encrusts instead and there is an area of about 1 1/2" around it that you can see the coralline just dying and turning grey and white.
