this guy popped up about a month after i introduced some blue pimpled mushrooms to my tank about six months ago. as far as i can tell it looks to be a cross between them and my green frillies but i dont know where the red is coming from. anyone that can give me an id would be great. its a little p.o.ed in the pictrure so normally its about the size of a silver dollar and has frilly edges and as you can tell it has the frills on top.

It looks like the beginning of a Rhodactis sp.

It could be the result of a crossbreed between the two other mushrooms. But, I highly doubt this is the case as that would require sexual reproduction and many other rarely seen events.

My guess is that it was formed by pedal laceration and has just recently grown to a noticeable size.

That looks like a "button" or "cat's eye" coral, aka. cynarina. It's an LPS coral ... so you may not have a mushroom at all! Take a closer look

That is most definitely not Cynarina. The fact that the mushroom isn't fully extended gives the appearance of the bubbles/vessicles around the outside of the oral disc. However, the presence of pseudotentacles rules out any type of Scleractinia and verifies that it is indeed a corallimorph, most likely of the genus Rhodactis.

heres a better pic so can anyone give me a positive id?

i got it from a friend that runs a fish store in sumter south carolina as a hitchhiker on a piece of rock(he did tell me that it was special rock but said id have to wait to see why... 4 months later ive got 4 different coral species growing on it)
