Need ideas for a 2.5g

Recovering Detritophobe
Hello everyone,

Right now I have a 2.5 gallon setup with some zoas, mushrooms, small softies etc... only 6 small frags in total. I want to do something different with this tank... either give it a "centerpiece", a theme, or something different. This tank is too small for almost every kind of fish, and I enjoy the easy maintinence with no feeding... but if something appropriate or "themed" comes up I would consider a fish. I have one 18w 50/50 light... enough for softies, not sure about any hard corals.

Any ideas?

i asked the same question on another forum and here are the answers i got (remember i didnt come up with these):
blue themed tank
macroalgea tank
debelius lobster tank
euphilla jungle w/ multiple fan worms
non reefsafe things (hitchhiker crabs, shrimps, worms, etc)
then there is also a rock anemone tank or something like a carribean biotope....
hth a little

I never thought of the potential for filter feeders... I could saturate the water with foods (phyto, cyclope-eze), and easily perform a 50% or 100% water change afterwards, so the leftovers do not rot.

I have a >1 gallon pico with 3 sexy shrimp, a scarlet hermit and a tiny urchin thats been set up for about 1.5 years. Theres a ton of bristleworms, amphipods and mysis in there also.
Honestly, I havent been keeping up with the maintenance as I should but despite that, its doing quite well. All the critters seem to be quite happy. The walls look like hell, though. From coralline growing all over it and the urchin scraping it off, its all scratched up.
I guess what I meant to say was that Agu has a good suggestion of sexy shrimp. A hermit in there would be nice, too. Dont need much else. :)

Agu / Spline9:

I like the idea. Could two or three sexy shrimp be sustained in a 2.5g with live rock and some sand?

The technology would be lights, a mini power-head and a heater.
(No other filtration)

they are so small that even you can get 3 and you wont have problem. I will recomend at least a very small filter unless you like to do water changes mora than ones a week

Like I said, my tank is less than a gallon.
Just so you have a better understanding on what they are in, heres a pic.

Sorry for the obnoxious image but hey, it works.
My stocklist (if you dont want to scroll back up) includes 3 sexy shrimp, a scarlet hermit, a tiny urchin (the end of its spines reach out about the size of a quarter), and countless bristle worms, mysis and other pods.
Its been set up for 1.5 years and I'm REALLY lazy about the water changes. I used to do a weekly 1/3 change when it used to be on my desk at work. Now that its home, I do a change oh, once every few months. I've been doing it like this for almost a year now. This is proof to me that its not that hard to keep at all. They even survived a crazy heatwave unchilled.

Thanks- The challenge for me was to go as low-tech as possible, but I guess that I should consider substituting the mini powerhead for a mini mechanical filter if I go with the shrimp.
