need ideas for new nano

I just picked up an Oceanic 14g Biocube. It was up and running when I got it but I put all of the livestock in my other tanks for now. I think I'm going to run it in the garage for a day or two with vinegar and water and then give it a good cleaning. After that its going in my media room.

It will be an independent system, not plumbed into the main. If you have an idea that would be cool let me know. And before you suggest it, NO SHARKS WITH LASER BEAMS.

Sohal tang? :)

I think Mantis Shrimp are pretty neat in the right tank. Also, a shrimp and goby pair would be cool as long as they don't take up residence in the back where you can't see them.

plus one with Kevin on the gobie, Prawn gobie & shrimp with a zoa & ric garden ?? could be awesome ,,,,,all high end zoas and palys , rics ,,,total poly garden , black sand .

Yeah it will, They can get big, they don't come in that big though. If you no anything about ritteri's you'd no how slow they grow and how hard they are to find a good one.
That tank is probably on the small side for one, but if I ever did a species tank that is what I'd put in it.

a 14 gal is actually to big for dwarf seahorses, and they tend to run to warm. I second the clown/anemone idea.....Tim (ChickenCanoneer) has some great RBTAs that he sells when they split, add in some black and white ocellaris, and I think you're partying like a rockstar

then again....Greg had an octopus the other day....but I hear they'll change your tv stations and hide your remote

Funny you say that, I have a rbta from tim in my 120 with all black ocellaris. I do have a gbta in a 55g that I think I will put in the cube with some type of clown. After that I'm still not sure. I kind of like the ric and zoo idea. Easy to keep and looks nice. I'm really not interested in seahorses.

BTW, I'm using the stock lighting in this thing, two 24w pc's. So considering there really isnt 14g in the display it comes out to just over 4w per gallon.

You can really do up a nano with high end zoas, palys, rics , VERY low maint . and its a frag machine to boot . soon as the financial advisor is not looking ,,i will have one for a zoa garden . and with the right combo its VERY colorful and a for sure eye catcher.

Hey Murph, I think I'm going along with you on this one. I was hoping to hear some original idea that I hadnt seen or thought of but those rarely come up when you surf these boards as much as I do. I do want an easy to keep and forgiving tank here, but I would also like it packed full of color. Reef Sysytems in C-Bus has a beautiful one on their counter under pc's. They even have a crocea in it. I asked the owner about it and he said if you keep it close enough and are able to keep the water in check it will be fine. Next time I go there I'm going to pay closer attention to whats going on in that cube.

Please keep giving me more ideas...

How about a macro algae garden http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1595694

something a little different and still looks cool.

I have to give it to you, its an idea I hadnt thought of. But passing that one by the inspector would be tricky.

One thing I am thinking of doing is taking a frag say 20zoas. split them into four frags of 5, and then see where they do the best. In the 120, in the 14, up high, down low.
Nothing scientific, just for kicks and giggles. I will even let Vu split up four of his $50 polyps and join in on the fun. Slice em and Dice em Vu. Then bring them to me.

I am currently doing something like that myself. 3 frags of the same zoa in 3 different spots. Yeah, he does seem to come across all the top goodies.
