need ideas on my neighborhood

I am a animal lover of all kinds! I have had just about anything/everything in the pet line up. I fight this problem every spring and summer. We have an over abundance of cats in the neighborhood running loose. These have collars and belong to people. My landscaping and perennial gardens are really getting crapped on. They are walking on our vehicles, on our porch etc. They are killing our wild baby bunnies(2 nests), tearing up bird's nests and killing young birds. .....I understand they need to hunt, this is their expected behavior in nature...we gotta have them to keep the rodent problem undercontrol. BUT I have a lot of money and time (10+ yrs) invested in my gardens. What can I put down around my gardens to deture them? Moth balls does not work, humane society says to catch them in a live trap. I'm not trapping them. I need a home remedy type application to make them NOT like my property.

I'm to the point of making a sign similar to the "No Hunting" and make it say "This is not a public Litter Box". I have never owned an animal and let it run loose, other's do, their perogative. Any thing on the market to do what I'm looking for? Thanks!

tried liquid fence....got it at Southern States, have to reapply every other day to keep them away! Also very costly and time consuming for the amount of area I need to cover!

I can keep rabbits from eating my produce using dog hair-it's cheap and I have lots of it! Have a chow/lab (115-120lbs) that has went through my chain link fence to get the teasing kitty. We have reinforced our fence in several places by lining it with steel grating! He doesn't ram those spots now!

I will search the other sites, thanks for the help...we need it!

Let me know when you find something that works. I'm kitty central in my part of town. We have dozens of the little buggers.

I have sold quite a few of these and my customers say they work good for them, you can order them from THIS website.

Check out Davesgarden.com. They have answers for everything! I've been a member of that community for 6 or 7 years. Matter of fact Brian and I just got back in town last night from the Ohio River Valley Gardeners Roundup. There were 30-40 people there all bringing food and many, many plants to trade. Brian couldn't have fit one more plant into our trailblazer! We should plant trade! I have lots in my garden. You can see the plants in my garden here http://davesgarden.com/journal/j/sj/Wvdaisy/343/

Like Jim, I too was going to recommend Contech products. I used to be a "distributor" for them.
I have used their ScatMats to keep cats off of my cars.
I was going to recommend the Scarecrow . They work well for racoons and probably great for cats.

John Marra was asked how to keep cats out of flowerbeds on the 12:00 news just now. "Don't make you flower beds feel like a litter box." He recommended using large chunky mulch to discourage digging. Now that I think about it I've also heard of scattering the "gumballs" from a sweetgum tree around your plants.
I've got a couple of "regulars" that pass though and sleep on the garage roof. :rolleye1:
They keep the catnip well munched but don't bother the flower beds.

I've got 4 cats of my own that will dig around in my mulch; not much of a problem really. What I hate is the neighborhood un-neutered male cats that come by during the night and "spray" down the grill cover and the garden box, and the heat pump (that's real nice), the back door. I'm going through a lot of vinegar. Why won't people have their ... that, too, is another story. Grrrrrr

You guys are going to laugh at me! I have been letting the fat dog chase out the cats. He gets his exercise and frustrations out since he is being forced to live with "little dogs". My min-pins are under his feet and he is above their level. When they go outside he comes in. When they come in, he goes out. He only acknowledges my pup since she won't leave him alone, ever! I still have the cat problem and am throwing gatorade bottles filled with water. If you spook them enough they tend to not visit as often. I need to research those sites you guys suggested.

I now have a mole problem. I know moles feed on grubs so I had my lawn treated for grubs. The moles have eaten all my asiatic and other lilly bulbs. I have had these lilly's for YEARS. None now! I have turned my min-pins into hunters! The pup points at squirrels like a bird dog and digs moles out like a rat terrior. Nine moles in 5 days. The lawn company said that moles are hard to get rid of. The moles will even eat the dead grubs killed by the chemical along with earthworms and roots. She suggested to mix peanut butter & oatmeal into balls and drop in their holes. For some reason they can not digest and it kills them and it wouldn't hurt my dogs. My dogs like peanut butter so I can't do that! Other suggestion was to put "whirly gigs" around their holes since the vibration makes them leave.

Late this afternoon we had a major down pour with lots of lighting and thunder. We really needed the rain. I was sitting on porch and watched a big momma raccoon and three babies emerge from my pompas grass. I was shocked to see them and especially since it was so early in the day. I knew I had shunks and possums but hadn't ever seen a racoon in my garden! I am right in the city and wildlife is abundant!

Last week , late in the evening we were laying on our dock on the Little Kanawha river watching the fish jump for bugs and a beaver swam right beside us. I have never been close to a beaver! They're fat! A couple days ago we were checking the dock and a doe on the opposite side of the river got a drink and started swimming towards us! She swam the width in approx. 3 minutes with no trouble at all. Very boyant. She had about 6-7"of back area of body on top of water while swimming. So gracelful!

You guys are gonna have to come to my house to see the wild animals!

I'd be interested in flower swapping! I belong to a group in Ohio that does it twice a year. Since we are meeting in August we will still have time to plant perrenials. I'll be thinning out again so let's do it! For those that have not done perrenial gardening we can share our harvest and teach you as we go along! It is a very rewarding hobby. Much cheaper than saltwater but just as addictive! Hope I didn't bore too much! Had to share!

I use to be into the whole plant thing but then I moved so everything was in pots, then I moved again and did not have room for the pots. Now I don't bother with them. I have a few, but nothing major.

Also I seem to have plenty of the Yellow Japanesse Iris. (at least that is what my grandmother use to call them) so if anyone wants some of those just say the word.
