i have been trying to figure out for a while what i could house in a five gallon acrylic tnak i have. i was thinking trying my hands at dwarf seahorses again, but then i dont wanna have to hatch live brine. then i thought the hawaiian red shrimp. but they are too expensove to ship and really i dont want a 100 of them. then i thought mantis shrimp anfd they seem the best. i want to know what is the best care i can offer. i am gonna try to get a peacock.
what food?
how often do i feed?
how much live rock?
how deep sand bed?
what temp?
etc etc etc

I'm a newb in the area of mantis shrimp (only been interested about 2-3 weeks) but a 5g sounds far too small for a peacock-BUT, for more info on them you should look here.

5 is too small for any but a really tiny baby peacock (1") though some have been showing up in the trade that size lately. Do yourself a favor and get a non-peacock if that it the tank you must use. Other kinds of mantis are equally colorful and interesting, and less expensive to boot :)

yeah i jsut read they got huge. i am curious as to which if any species will do fine in a five gallon. i would like to know the common and species name so i know exactly what to ask for when i order. thank you for the help

Neogonodactylus Wennerae I have seems to be quite happy in a 5 gallon. They only get about 2.35 in. or so though. A lot of the mantis species don't have common names, just species, so no luck there.
